Nexium
Active IngredientEsomeprazole
Each 20 mg tablet contains 20 mg of esomeprazole.
The active ingredient is esomeprazole. It belongs to the class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). It works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach.
Esomeprazole is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and other stomach conditions caused by acidity or GERD-causing stomach cancers, such as duodenal, gastric, or esophagitis ulcers.
Each tablet contains 20 mg of esomeprazole.
Nexium is used to prevent stomach ulcers in people with peptic ulcers. This includes people who are older than 65 or people with certain medical conditions such as heart disease, kidney disease, or liver disease.
In patients with serious gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) or other stomach problems, esomeprazole is not usually recommended for long-term use. It can be used along with acid-suppressing therapies such as H2 blockers or NSAIDs.
If you have any of these conditions or have any questions about the dosage or treatment of Nexium, talk to your doctor.
Always read the label and follow the directions for use.
Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist.
The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
